What side effects should I expect?

Some patients may experience weight gain with Depakote ER. Talk to your doctor about how to maintain a weight that's good for you. Your doctor may wish to discuss diet, fitness, and other weight management plans.

What about women who are planning a pregnancy or become pregnant while taking Depakote ER?

Women taking Depakote ER for epilepsy should talk to their doctor if they are planning to get pregnant. Depakote ER has been associated with birth defects. Does Depakote ER interact with oral contraceptives?

Depakote ER does not have any interactions with oral contraceptives.

How do I safely store Depakote ER?

As with all medications, Depakote ER should be kept in a safe place, tightly closed, and out of the reach of children. Depakote ER should be stored at 77ºF. Depakote ER should not be stored above 86ºF. Do not keep it in the refrigerator. The pharmacy bottle or pill box should be protected from light or moisture. Do not put it in the bathroom medicine cabinet where there is a chance it will get wet.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you forget to take your daily dose of medicine at the scheduled time, go ahead and take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for you to take your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose.
