A written survey was prepared with 60 questions asking about 1369 options for psychopharmacologic and psychotherapeutic interventions. Surveys were sent to 50 national experts, of whom 47 (94%) completed it. Consensus on each option was defined as a nonrandom distribution of scores by chi-square test. A category rank (first-line/preferred, second-line/alternate, third-line/ usually inappropriate) was assigned to each option based on the confidence interval of its mean rating. Guideline tables were then developed with treatment recommendations for key clinical situations
Also recommended concomitantly with an antipsychotic
§Recommended concomitantly with an antipsychotic; antipsychotic alone was another first-line option
